LET THE JOURNEY BEGIN!

Let the journey begin!! Naturally, we start from our hometown, Thessaloniki. If someone ask us to choose our favorite neighborhood, it would be the Upper town. The Upper town is the old town of Thessaloniki, its most traditional part, located around the acropolis, the highest part of the city. Colorful houses, paved streets and hidden squares create a unique scenery! When you walk around the streets, it seems that time has stopped…

You don’t need a map to explore the Upper town. Look around you and let yourself get lost!! Don’t miss out the architecture of the two or three storey houses with the big yards. Byzantine nobles used to live there and later rich Ottomans and Islamized Jews. These are typical examples of the traditional Macedonian architecture with their bay windows (sachnisia) and roofed balconies (hagatia). Next to these impressive buildings, you can see little houses with no particular architectonic history but full of human stories. There used to live the majority of the 92000 Greek refugees who came from Asia Minor in 1922.

If you got tired from walking around, it’s time to go to the Triangle Tower (one of the many towers of the city’s Byzantine walls) to enjoy the best view of Thessaloniki! From there you can see directly to the sea and take amazing photographs!

TIPS
